Helping make Clubhouse more accessible, here is a list of most of the shows that were mentioned during the March 07, 2021 Clubhouse Room called:
Fiction Podcast Appreciation Day!
Hello Fiction Podcast fans!
We’re adding a couple sections to this newsletter to capture some more of the goodies we discussed during the weekly chat! Last week we added RE-MENTIONS! which will appear just after the shows mentioned for the first time. This will just be titles, plus the Vol. & No. of the newsletter it was first mentioned in. Then an IN DEVELOPMENT! section for shows that haven’t released any episodes yet. And then a NON-FICTION! section for non-fiction shows. Then we’ll list any podcast EVENTS! someone might mention during the hour. And below that you’ll also find a DISCOVERY! section. Whew!
We might not need each of these sections each week, and we might need more sections than this. So remember to check the bottom of the newsletters for those extras, or other special things such as the BONUS! section at the very end of this week’s newsletter — resources on creating scripts and transcripts!

A few words about scripts and transcripts!
TRANSCRIPTS …
… are for Audience. They should be easy to find, easy to read, and include enough info to help readers have a full experience of your show, including context clues for sound effects and tone of voice where necessary. While it’s becoming more expected that Fiction Podcasts have scripts for accessibility, not every creator has the financial resources or time to make scripts freely available. And that’s okay, as long as you make them available when you can.
Here are some links to articles on making transcripts for Fiction Podcasts.

Examples of nice transcripts
Check out the Hug House Productions website for how they organize access to all their shows, with their episodes and transcripts easy to find. I like the Hug House transcripts for Valence because they are easy to read right on my phone, and offer a little bit of a special experience for readers. Click through to VALENCE, and then through to Episodes & Transcripts, then pick the episode you want to read about.
Here’s the link: https://hughouse.productions/ … check how easy the transcripts are to find.
SCRIPTS…
… are for cast and crew.
Scripts might need a little bit of extra information for both actors and for whoever is going to do the sound design. There are a lot of styles for scripts for Fiction Podcasts, enough so there is no one way to do it. But if you take the time to make things clear before scripts are circulated, it can save a lot of time later.
I like the way this site describes things (please forgive the format … it’s hard to read!) It suggests using punctuation and typography to make it clear how sentences should be read by actors, and to set apart directions for mic distance. But also, instructions for sound designers use special punctuation to set those directions apart, too. Some kinds of cues do not apply if you’re not creating sound effects simultaneous to recording the voice audio, but would work for live performances. And for sure, even if you’re doing your own sound design, having sound effects listed right there in the script will save your own brain some friction when you sit down with your DAW.

For a more concise visual example, here is a PDF of US Radio Drama Format available from BBC. Note: this is not the only common format.
